Testimonials

We are a family of four (two children, 5 and 3). We have recently returned from an unforgettable tour of Cappadocia. We had only two days and a modest budget and yet we had the most one of the richest experiences of our lives. This was largely due to the impeccable treatment we received from our tour guide/operator Ahmet Sezgin at Urgup Travel. We were thoroughly impressed with his knowledge and passion for the area, coupled with a particular sensitvity to our needs and warm, good-humour. We visited the most gently informative and spectacular carpet weaving and pottery workshops in the region and spent a significant amount of time exploring some of the geological and anthropological wonders of the underground cities and cave-churches in the area. The professionalism of our guide came complete with personal touches like lively conversations in traditional teashops, tasty local cuisine and other improvised pitstops along the way. We wish to highly recommed the services of his company to anyone wishing to visit this fascinating and stately region of Central Anatolia.

I just got back from my first trip to Turkey. As the dauther of an airline employee, I am used to travelling around the world without a tour. But boy, am I glad I had a personal guide in Cappadocia. While the others in their tour buses were shuttled around and given time limits, my experience was like having a friend show you around Ahmet was wonderful. He grew up in Urgup so he was so proud to show you where he played as a child or his favorite places. Ahmet piked us up at our hotel at 9:30 a.m, drove us all around  Cappadocia, explaining the history of each site and returned us back to our hotellate each nightgoing  above and beyond what he needed to do. He speaks English is trying to leam Japanese and will tell tou Turkish sayings and stories. http://www.ricksteves.com /graffiti/graffiti65.html

Our cappadocian guide, Ahmet, was a local and took great plasure in educating us about his homeland. His knowledge of history, ancient civilizations and all things Turkish was extensive. Unlike guides I’ve had on some trips, Ahmet was enthusiastic, energetic and humorous too. It  was obvious that he loved his country and his job as a guide. One  evening, we were taken to the modest home of some villagers where we sat on their  best handmade meal. Ahmet  translated as we got to know our Turkish host family.

Additional stops in Cappadocia included an afternoon at a real Turkish bath, demonstrations at ceramic, carpet and jewelry work shops and a traditional lamb diner with a folk dancer performance.  We also toured ancient underground cities as well as caves in Goreme where early Christians lived, worshiped and created spectacular, events and the life of  Christ. The well-preserved caves were awe-inspiring and made it easy to imagine the lives of these earliest Chistians who were often forced to live in hiding to avoid persecution and execution.
